About the position

The Electrical Hardware & Embedded Controls Engineer position involves the development and support of electronic components for both current and future products within a major defense contractor. The role emphasizes new product design, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and adherence to safety and environmental regulations. Candidates will engage in the entire product lifecycle, from design to testing, while ensuring compliance with industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the electrical design and development of new products including the development of ECAD models and manufacturing drawings
  • Lead the specification and implementation of electronic and embedded system hardware and software
  • Lead the control system design and specification of servo based systems
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary development team including mechanical, software and systems engineers
  • Participate in product testing and qualification efforts
  • Identify equipment and materials needed for production and product testing
  • Design, prototype, test, and implement new manufacturing processes and recommend current process improvements
  • Review applicable non-conformance reports and identify solutions to resolve issues as part of corrective / preventive action process
  • Support and adhere to all safety and environmental regulations & policies
  • Collaborate with other Rheinmetall sites and operations around the world
  • Support the VP Engineering by performing other assigned duties

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering is preferred (experience will also be considered in lieu of a degree)
  • Minimum of 1+ year of experience in design and/or manufacturing environments
  • Experience with simulation tools such as MATLAB / Simulink, NI Multisim, Ansys Fluent, PSIM, Siemens ModelSim, or comparable control system environments
  • Experience with C/C++ or equivalent programming for embedded systems
  • Working knowledge of product life cycle management
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Knowledge of defense and/or commercial electronic circuitry and applicable build standards
  • Ability to work closely with manufacturing personnel at all levels
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001, AS9100, or similar quality management standard
  • Motivated and self-directed
  • Ability to work well in a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to obtain and maintain government security clearance

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in a relevant area
  • 3+ years' experience in design and/or manufacturing environments
  • Experience with Altium PCB Design Software
  • Experience with US Department of Defense contracts and requirements is highly preferred
  • Experience with robotics is preferred
  • Experience with PLC's (Siemens, Allen Bradley, etc) / automation is preferred
