About the position

Trillium Professional is seeking a Technician in Hardware Engineering for a long-term opportunity in Foster City, CA. This role encompasses a variety of tasks, from urgent one-off jobs such as soldering breakout wires on a printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) to more complex, ongoing projects like assembling and supporting the development of an ECU test setup integrated into a full-sized server rack. The ideal candidate will possess technical experience in working with electrical subsystems and demonstrate a strong eagerness to learn and expand their skill set. As a Technician in Hardware Engineering, you will be responsible for providing cable harness and test setup assembly, modifications, testing, and documentation. Your duties will include soldering and performing reworks on PCBAs, handling wires ranging from 00 AWG to 35 AWG, as well as SMD chips (0201+) and integrated circuits (ICs) such as QFN and BGA. You will also provide test support, which involves test preparation, execution, data collection, and thorough documentation of results. Additionally, you will assist in managing the inventory of equipment and consumables, guiding proper use and selection, while maintaining a safe and organized lab environment and contributing to lab improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide cable harness and test setup assembly, modifications, testing, and documentation.
  • Perform soldering and PCBA reworks on wires (00 AWG to 35 AWG), SMD chips (0201+), and ICs (QFN and BGA).
  • Provide test support, including test preparation, execution, data collection, and documentation.
  • Assist in managing the inventory of equipment and consumables and guide proper use and selection.
  • Maintain a safe and organized lab environment and contribute to lab improvements.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of prior experience in assembling, testing, and repairing PCBAs and cable harnesses.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, circuit board files, BOMs, and engineering drawings.
  • Experience with electrical engineering lab equipment such as soldering irons, digital multimeters, power supplies, and oscilloscopes.
  • Proficiency with hardware tools including crimpers, wire strippers/cutters, torque drivers, calipers, and power drills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate degree or higher in electrical/electronics/mechanical technology or equivalent.
  • Certifications such as IPC-A-610, IPC-A-620, J-STD-001, IPC-7711/7721.
  • Experience in the automotive industry, particularly with ECU assembly/testing and knowledge of SAE standards.
  • Experience working directly with external vendors for lab equipment procurement and/or calibration.
  • Conducting failure analysis, providing feedback, and delivering informative documentation.
  • Experience with shock, vibration, thermal, and/or IP testing.
  • Familiarity with Linux command line and/or Python.
