About the position

As an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer at Westinghouse Electric Co, you will play a crucial role in developing systems and preparing instrument and control deliverables based on process specifications throughout the project and product life-cycle. This position involves creating detailed specifications, designs, and schematics, as well as selecting components and providing engineering support during installation and commissioning of control systems. You will be part of a pioneering team focused on enhancing power generation efficiency and safety in nuclear power, contributing to the company's mission of providing clean energy solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop functional requirements specifications, project procedures, equipment data sheets, system requirements
  • Develop designs and schematics
  • Select instrumentation and control components
  • Ensure that all I&C design changes are captured by the change control process
  • Participate in risk Process Hazards Analysis, HAZOP, and LOPA as I&C subject matter expert
  • Provide technical input during design phase
  • Develop specification and prepare material requisitions for control systems, instruments, and other components
  • Participate in design and engineering reviews
  • Perform calculations e.g. for intrinsic safety, safety instrumented systems, etc.
  • Install and commission instrument control systems
  • Liaise with and manage interfaces with other engineering disciplines; process, electrical, mechanical, piping etc.
  • Advise the Engineering Manager of any major slippages and their causes, major technical problems and unresolved differences with other Groups
  • Ensure that the applicable specifications and standards are applied across all aspects of I&C delivery to the Project
  • Assist in the development of equipment qualification test procedures, evaluate test results, and review final reports
  • Attend site during construction and commissioning phase when required
  • Provide I&C Engineering technical support
  • Take ownership of I&C technical queries to ensure satisfactory resolution
  • Interface with vendor/supplier engineering representatives, establish and maintain a project repository of project documents
  • Deliver documentation that is technically correct to the required standard and schedule
  • Monitor all on site activities including installation, commissioning, site acceptance testing (SAT), and factory acceptance testing (FAT)
  • Engage with any other activities that would be realistically required of the role

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation & Controls, or related field is required
  • Minimum 5-10 years of applicable engineering experience required; 10+ years preferred
  • Previous experience in specialty chemical, petrochemical, API pharmaceutical, or nuclear industry is highly desired
  • Good knowledge of the I&C related US and international standards
  • Full I&C project life cycle experience
  • Experience in preparation and reviewing full I&C project documentation including functional descriptions, specifications, wiring/loop diagrams, P&IDs and others
  • Good understanding of PLC and DCS systems including both hardware and software, specific knowledge of Honeywell Experion, Allen Bradley, GE, Siemens preferred
  • Good understanding of industrial communication networks and its protocols including Profibus, Profinet, Modbus TCP
  • Good knowledge of process instrumentation used for both, basic process control systems and safety instrumented systems (SIS)
  • Ability to specify, install and commission instrumentation
  • Good understanding of safety instrumented systems design and safety life cycle
  • Good understanding of basic cybersecurity requirements for operational technology
  • The ability to produce technical reports, and able to clearly explain complex technical I&C related issues
  • The ability to engage with, and influence, a team of professionals
  • The ability and willingness to travel domestic and international to perform vendor evaluations, completing site acceptance tests (SAT) and conduct inspections/audits
