About the position

The Electrical / Instrument Control Specialist at Chevron Phillips Chemical is responsible for operating and maintaining plant equipment, implementing control systems, and providing technical support for various projects. This role involves designing DCS software changes, coordinating tests, and ensuring the integrity of control systems while supporting a culture of respect, diversity, and inclusion within the company.

Responsibilities

  • Works with a team that operates/maintains plant equipment to provide resources for controls-related project implementation
  • Designs and implements DCS software changes (DCS logic configurations, point building, and graphic design)
  • Assigns and maintains control system addressing and point assignments
  • Provides technical consultation to contract engineering firms and project engineers
  • Coordinates FAT (factory acceptance test) and SAT (site acceptance test)
  • Maintains instrument index and provides tag assignments for new loops
  • Coordinates software and hardware upgrades, troubleshooting, and lifecycle plan development of control systems
  • Provides on-call support for Control Systems issues 24/7
  • Assists Instrument and Electrical Technicians in control systems troubleshooting
  • Completes markup drawings affected by software changes
  • Provides updates to SOP's and/or operating instructions due to software changes
  • Supports IEC Engineer in the checkout/startup of field devices to the control systems
  • Provides technical expertise to solve process control and field instrumentation issues
  • Attends Users Group seminars, vendor schools, and demonstrations
  • Conducts informal training sessions for other disciplines affected by control systems changes
  • Develops internal guidelines on standardizing design
  • Reviews hardware/software maintenance contracts annually
  • Supports construction projects and attends project scope meetings to discuss control strategies
  • Performs quality assurance of newly installed control systems loops
  • Supports PHA/LOPA Review Teams
  • Works with the IT/ICS group on cybersecurity initiatives
  • Adheres to ICS Network Security Policy

Requirements

  • Minimum of an associate's degree in Instrument or Electrical/Electronic Technology or related field
  • Minimum of 7 years of related experience
  • Experience designing and implementing software/hardware changes on control systems in a manufacturing, chemical, or refinery environment
  • Ability to read and understand design documents (P&IDs, instrument loop drawings, schematics, etc.)
  • DCS experience
