About the position

The Electrical & Instrumentation Business Operations Manager is a key technical expert within the Wastewater Management agency of Fairfax County Government. This role involves leading a team of electricians and instrumentation technicians to ensure the effective design, repair, maintenance, and operation of the county's wastewater pumping stations. The manager oversees daily work activities, administrative responsibilities, and compliance with regulations, while also analyzing work productivity and ensuring staff training and development.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of electricians and instrumentation technicians in the operation of wastewater pumping stations.
  • Manage daily work activities and administrative responsibilities of the Pump Station Branch Electrical and Instrumentation Sections.
  • Provide technical expertise to review and verify plans for rehabilitation and new pump station projects.
  • Ensure compliance with Personnel Regulations and Standards of Conduct among frontline supervisors.
  • Analyze work productivity and assess employee development opportunities.
  • Evaluate skill levels required for maintenance of equipment with newer technology advancements.
  • Ensure adequate training for employees in executing assigned tasks.
  • Evaluate work production using Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Provide scope clarification to the Purchasing Department for services and equipment.
  • Contribute to staff meetings regarding pump station improvements and upgrades.
  • Perform routine inspections of pump stations to identify improvement needs.
  • Participate in the assessment of the Assets Management Program.
  • Utilize CMMS data to determine operating equipment rehabilitation and repair needs.
  • Oversee and manage the work of outside contractors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental sciences, engineering, construction management, or a related field.
  • Four years of experience in an environmental, engineering, or construction management program.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Experience as an industrial electrician or instrumentation technician.

Nice-to-haves

  • Possession of a Journeyman or Master's Electrician license.
  • 3-5 years of experience in electrical or instrumentation work in an industrial setting.
  • Experience managing projects and budgeting.
  • Experience overseeing preventive, corrective, and emergency repairs to industrial equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret manufacturer's drawings.
