About the position

The Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer will perform advanced engineering techniques and make decisions on engineering problems and methods while interfacing with clients to define project scope. This role involves electrical engineering and design assignments related to production, maintenance, process, capital projects, R&D, and power distribution. The engineer will participate in all electrical functions associated with projects, including design, construction management, commissioning, and troubleshooting, while providing technical guidance to less experienced engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Function as a project lead for small projects or area lead for larger projects.
  • Define scope from receipt of basic data to issue for design process deliverables.
  • Interface with clients' cross-functional teams to define operating requirements.
  • Study, design, specify, and provide services related to electrical systems including power generation and control.
  • Assess the quality and capability of newly designed and installed Capital Projects.
  • Manage industrial electrical power distribution across various voltage levels.
  • Handle electrical power distribution equipment and utilization equipment.
  • Generate and read electrical drawings including single line, three line, schematic, wiring, and physical drawings.
  • Engage in discussions regarding process control and safety concerns.
  • Provide engineering, checkout, and qualification for capital project process control systems.
  • Design, specify, select, and provide services for instrumentation and control systems.
  • Lead or self-perform project scope and provide technical guidance to less experienced engineers.
  • Participate in Process Hazard Analysis for project-related work.
  • Define process design basis for other disciplines and lead multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Develop project estimates, scopes, and schedules, and lead estimate reviews.
  • Work with Construction Manager during FEL and oversee project execution in the field.
  • Forecast and track project costs monthly and manage scope changes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Control Systems.
  • Good understanding of industry codes and standards (NFPA 70E/NEC, OSHA, IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, API, ASI).
  • 8+ years of qualified related experience.
  • Experience in the chemical, refining, or biofuels industry.
  • Experience with P&ID Development, equipment sizing, electrical calculations, and instrumentation.
  • Demonstrated leadership of process design on capital projects, including budget and schedule responsibility.
  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) license preferred, but not required.
