About the position

General Atomics (GA) is a leader in high-technology systems development, with a focus on a wide range of applications including the nuclear fuel cycle, remotely piloted aircraft, airborne sensors, and advanced electric and electronic technologies. The Electrical Integration & Test (I&T) Engineer position is based in Herndon, VA, within the Electromagnetic Systems group. This team is dedicated to providing innovative security solutions for the United States Government, tackling complex technical challenges in national security. The role involves working on spacecraft, spacecraft payload, and system development, particularly in environments that require high functionality in small, power-constrained systems. The engineer will collaborate with various teams to ensure successful integration and testing of spacecraft systems, contributing to the full lifecycle of these projects. The selected candidate will engage in defining derived requirements, system integration, testing, and verification for spacecraft and associated electronics. This includes significant hands-on involvement in integration and test activities, developing electrical integration procedures for flight vehicle assembly, and ensuring that all documentation meets compliance and safety standards. The engineer will formulate test plans based on engineering documentation and program requirements, evaluate engineering solutions, and communicate effectively with engineering professionals and management throughout the development cycle. The role may also involve providing leadership and guidance to less experienced staff, planning for future applications of solutions, and maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information. Safety and adherence to regulations are paramount in this position, and the engineer will be expected to perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in derived-requirements definition, system integration, test, and verification for spacecraft and associated electronics.
  • Develop and implement electrical integration procedures for flight vehicle assembly and Ground Support Equipment (GSE).
  • Formulate test plans for component, subsystem, and system level testing based on engineering documentation.
  • Evaluate the integration of engineering solutions within the overall engineering environment.
  • Communicate with engineering professionals and management throughout the solution development cycle.
  • Represent the organization as a prime Electrical I&T technical contact within an engineering team.
  • Plan and coordinate the maintenance of test equipment and technical process standards.
  • Support the development of new test equipment and process standards.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and observe all applicable laws and regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, master's degree, or PhD in computer or electrical engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Twelve or more years of experience with a bachelor's degree, ten or more years with a master's degree, or seven or more years with a PhD.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise and application of engineering principles and concepts.
  • Ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads to meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with spacecraft integration and test.
  • Comfortable working with custom/standard serial protocols and developing custom utilities.
  • Proficiency in writing scripts and analyzing data using software packages like Excel and MATLAB.
  • Experience testing hardware/software/communication protocols on embedded systems.
  • Desirable proficiency in C programming language and experience within the Linux environment.
