About The Position

The Electrical Mechanical Specialist position is a highly technical role focused on the building, operations, repair, and maintenance of the City-owned water supply, transmission, storage, and distribution systems, as well as wastewater collection, transmission, storage, and treatment systems. This position also involves the operation, repair, and maintenance of the City's power generators. The specialist will be responsible for a variety of tasks including the installation, modification, maintenance, and repair of electrical generating equipment and various water and wastewater systems. This includes working with electric valves, check valves, altitude valves, submersible pumps, vertical turbine pumps, centrifugal pumps, high-service pumps, aeration equipment, mixers, mechanical bar screens, chlorinators, telemetry systems, and computer monitoring systems. In addition to installation and repair tasks, the specialist will fabricate control and electrical panels, motor-control centers, and electrical distribution systems. They will also be responsible for installing, modifying, repairing, maintaining, and calibrating measurement equipment such as meters, transmitters, telemetry, chlorination controllers, dissolved oxygen meters, and chart recorders. The role requires upgrading, rebuilding, and rehabilitating wastewater pump stations and treatment plants, particularly for equipment that has become obsolete or inefficient. Troubleshooting of electrical, electronic, mechanical, and hydraulic systems is a critical function of this position. The specialist will need to obtain building and electrical permits and coordinate inspections as required. Emergency repairs on water and wastewater systems, equipment, and facilities will also be part of the job responsibilities. Maintaining records on equipment, generators, pump stations, and wells is essential, as well as conducting safety and fire inspections of equipment and systems in compliance with County, State, and Federal regulations. The role may also involve assessing damage from various incidents and coordinating insurance claims. The specialist will provide instruction on preventative maintenance procedures and perform startup inspections and performance tests on new and modified systems. Additionally, they will assist management in reviewing plans, specifications, and drawings for new construction and rehabilitation projects, and may be subject to call-out as needed.
