About the position

Armstrong World Industries (AWI) is seeking a Senior Electrical Project Engineer to join our team in Pensacola, Florida. This full-time position is ideal for an individual with over 5 years of experience in electrical engineering, particularly in the context of manufacturing equipment and processes. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in leading and executing major capital projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the required performance standards. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate with various teams across the organization, including global manufacturing, innovation, new product development, and plant operations, as well as with external suppliers. As a Senior Electrical Project Engineer, you will be responsible for applying sound process control and power concepts to all work performed. You will actively participate in a multifunctional project team, executing a variety of capital projects from concept through to asset installation and start-up. Your responsibilities will include investigating problems with processes and equipment, recommending corrective actions, and specifying equipment while working closely with vendors. You will also be involved in designing, procuring, and installing controls and power systems for new production lines, whether in existing facilities or new ones. Additionally, you will participate in Lean events aimed at driving rapid process improvements and will have the opportunity to mentor and develop junior electrical engineers and maintenance personnel on technical and engineering best practices. Responsibilities

  • Leading and executing major capital projects per agreed cost, schedule, and performance.
  • Applying sound process control and power concepts and principles to all work performed.
  • Actively participating as a member of a multifunctional project team executing a variety of capital projects from concept to asset installation and start-up.
  • Investigating problems with process and equipment and recommending corrective action.
  • Specifying equipment, working with vendors, and designing, procuring and installing controls and power to control new production lines within existing facilities or new facilities.
  • Participating in Lean events to drive rapid process improvements.
  • Mentoring and developing junior electrical engineers and maintenance personnel on technical and engineering best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or 5 years experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Ability to lead projects and teams.
  • Experience within industrial automation technologies such as Allen-Bradley PLC, human-machine interfaces (HMIs), variable frequency drives, servo systems, and instrumentation and controls.
  • Industrial networking experience, including hands-on experience managing an industrial Ethernet network.
  • Hands on installation and construction skills.
  • Proven ability to communicate and integrate well across organizational functions/units.
  • Demonstrated presentation skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Engineer in Training (EIT) and/or Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
  • Lean Practitioner certification or experience utilizing Lean tools.
