About the position

The Electrical Project Engineer will work within the Construction Department and will report to the Project Superintendent along with MEP and Project Managers. This role is critical as the Project Engineer will be on the front line to aid in avoiding and solving technical problems that arise during the construction process. The position requires close collaboration with design professionals, clients, and subcontractors to address complex coordination issues. The Project Engineer will be fully stationed at the project site in Sunnyvale, CA, ensuring that all electrical elements are coordinated within the overall project design. In this role, the Project Engineer will be responsible for running meetings that involve area managers, design team members, multiple subcontractors, and client representatives. They will serve as the interface between area managers and subcontractors to help resolve field coordination items. The Project Engineer will interpret design and construction documents, technical manuals, and quantify materials required for construction. Additionally, they will organize and facilitate training of the client's personnel in the operations and maintenance of electrical elements and systems. The Project Engineer will also review and process submittal information, generate and distribute requests for information (RFI), and manage change documents issued by other team members. Field surveys for layout of control lines and benchmarks will be part of their responsibilities, as well as serving as the technical advisor at the onsite field construction office. This position demands a strong team player who can collaborate effectively with various personnel across departments and at all levels of leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Run meetings involving area managers, design team members, multiple subcontractors, and client representatives.
  • Interface between area managers and subcontractors to help resolve field coordination items.
  • Interpret design, construction documents, technical manuals, and quantifying materials required for construction from the documents.
  • Coordinate all electrical elements and within the overall project design.
  • Organize and facilitate training of the client's personnel in the operations and maintenance of electrical elements and systems.
  • Review and process submittal information and coordinate between multiple submittals to ensure the accuracy and functionality of each component of the various elements and systems.
  • Generate, receive, and distribute requests for information (RFI).
  • Receive and distribute change documents issued by other team members.
  • Field survey layout of control lines and benchmarks.
  • Serve as the technical advisor at onsite field construction office.

Requirements

  • A minimum of three (3) years of commercial building experience required.
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or equivalent degree and/or equivalent field work experience required.
  • Education background in materials and methods of construction.
  • Must be a strong team player with the ability to collaborate with various personnel within and across departments and at all levels of leadership.
  • Work schedule must be flexible to allow extended hours or off-shift work to accommodate changing construction schedule and sequences.
  • Workday is a combination of being stationary and moving about the work location. Must be able to spend equal amounts of time in a stationary position in an office environment and moving about the construction site.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend ladders, scaffolds, stairs, and work in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to work in proximity to loud equipment more than 50% of the time. Must be able to wear hearing protection, as necessary.
  • Must be able to lift or manipulate 50 pounds to 3 feet and carry or push it 50-100 feet.
  • Must be able to regularly bend or twist to examine project work.
  • Must be able to regularly position self in a kneeling, crouching or crawling position to examine project work.
  • Must use independent judgment, organizational and problem-solving skills to determine the best method to accomplish desired results.
