About the position

The Electrical Project Engineer will join the renewables team at UL, LLC, focusing on technical due diligence for financing utility-scale and distributed solar photovoltaic (PV), wind, and battery storage projects. This role involves independent reviews and assessments of electrical/power system engineering designs and technology used in solar and battery energy storage projects, as well as supporting project construction activities through on-site inspections and report preparation.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct electrical engineering and technology assessments for Independent Engineering and Technical Advisory projects related to solar and storage projects.
  • Perform electrical design reviews and assess engineering, procurement, and construction contracts and project schedules.
  • Write and update technical reviews for equipment used in PV projects, including inverters and SCADA systems.
  • Conduct detailed technical reviews of electrical engineering design and construction documentation, including plans and specifications.
  • Monitor on-site construction to ensure compliance with design drawings and good construction practices.
  • Participate in meetings with stakeholders regarding electrical engineering technical reviews and construction issues.
  • Prepare detailed reports on electrical engineering design reviews and construction monitoring activities.
  • Engage in departmental training activities to enhance engineering knowledge.
  • Attend regular departmental and team meetings.
  • Integrate continuous improvement concepts into all job aspects.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in electrical or civil engineering from an ABET-accredited institution; Master's Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a solar project engineer.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of explaining complex issues to non-experts.
  • Experience in the design and/or analysis of AC and DC power systems with PV or battery storage preferred.
  • Familiarity with the NEC and construction methods.
  • Passed the Fundamentals in Engineering (FE) exam and working towards a Professional Engineer License; Professional Engineer License preferred.
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office products and English.
  • Valid Driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Self-starter with strong scheduling and prioritization skills.
  • Customer-centric mindset.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $97,000 - $130,000 based on experience.
