About the position

The Electrical Project Engineer (Transportation Design Engineer III) at the Maryland Department of Transportation is responsible for managing, planning, and designing Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and electrical work associated with transportation facilities. This role involves engaging in large and complex engineering projects, coordinating with various stakeholders, and ensuring the successful execution of electrical studies and project management tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Manage electrical studies.
  • Act as project manager for large Capital projects in ITS and Electrical Engineering.
  • Coordinate and review design reports and drawings.
  • Review construction documents such as as-built plans, RFIs, and submittals.
  • Review Scope of Work (SOW) for ITS/Electrical on-call tasks.
  • Collaborate with utility companies for project power, energy, and communication requirements.
  • Coordinate with ITS/Electrical engineers and MDTA stakeholders on various tasks and projects.
  • Prepare engineering cost and man-hour estimates for ITS/Electrical tasks.
  • Conduct field visits to facility locations with consultants/contractors as needed.

Requirements

  • Possession of an Engineer in Training (EIT) Certificate in the State of Maryland.
  • Two years of experience performing engineering work involving specialized engineering analysis and design, including one year in planning and design of ITS and/or Electrical Engineering projects.
  • Valid Driver's License in the State of Maryland.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Closed Circuit Television Systems (CCTV) and dynamic message signs (DMS).
  • Familiarity with fiber optic networks and tunnel control systems (SCADA).
