About the position

The Electrical Engineer position at TC Energy is focused on providing electrical engineering analysis and support for sustainability and maintenance projects within the US Natural Gas Pipeline sector. The role involves reviewing electrical power system designs, evaluating contractor packages, and ensuring compliance with engineering standards while collaborating with internal teams and external engineering firms.

Responsibilities

  • Follow and ensure compliance with TC Energy's Practice of Engineering (POE) in all assigned work
  • Act in the best interest of TC Energy by interacting with internal technical groups and external engineering firms to evaluate and approve electrical design packages
  • Provide innovative engineering solutions to solve emergent technical issues
  • Responsible for the engineering work associated with maintenance projects in natural gas facilities, focusing on power, instrumentation, and automation equipment
  • Gather maintenance project ideas and technical data in early stages of development to determine the best engineering approach for implementation
  • Schedule internal and third-party engineering resources to support assigned projects
  • Compile data associated with bidding documentation for the selection of third-party engineering firms, including defining Engineering Deliverables tied to varied project types
  • Review third-party engineering bid documents and proposals for contract awarding
  • Manage project-specific engineering contracts, including periodic interface and oversight of hired Engineering Service Providers (ESPs)
  • Schedule design reviews, ensure proper stakeholder engagement during the design process, and establish direction for the overall project design product
  • Participate in project design and HAZOP reviews
  • Verify facility load list calculations, perform and/or review arc flash, relay coordination, and load studies
  • Identify equipment design requirements and review equipment layouts and installation
  • Review station's ancillary systems performance to ensure operational reliability
  • Review third-party engineering firm design calculations, equipment vendor drawings, and material lists
  • Sizing verification and purchase specification for motor control centers.

Requirements

  • Relevant experience with compression and measurement facilities station power distribution systems
  • Knowledge of NEC adherence
  • Experience with motor control centers (MCC)
  • Familiarity with automatic transfer switches (ATS)
  • Experience with main breakers and power factor correction capacitors (PFCC)
  • Knowledge of conduit & cable tray evaluation and design
  • Experience with auxiliary power unit (APU) generators
  • Understanding of hazardous area classification and grounding
  • Experience with arc flash studies, lighting, transformers, and control panels (SCP, ESD & UCP)

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Remote Terminal Units (RTU)
  • Experience with Gas Chromatographs (GC) and Gas Analyzers
  • Familiarity with variable frequency drives and motors
  • Understanding of utility interface.
