About the position

The Electrical Project Engineer at TC Energy is responsible for providing electrical engineering analysis and support for sustainability and maintenance projects within the US Natural Gas Pipeline sector. This role involves reviewing electrical power system designs, evaluating contractor packages, and ensuring compliance with engineering standards. The engineer will work closely with internal teams and external firms to deliver innovative solutions for various natural gas facilities, focusing on power, instrumentation, and automation equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with TC Energy's Practice of Engineering (POE) in all assigned work.
  • Interact with internal technical groups and external engineering firms to evaluate and approve electrical design packages.
  • Provide innovative engineering solutions to solve emergent technical issues.
  • Manage engineering work associated with maintenance projects in natural gas facilities, focusing on power, instrumentation, and automation equipment.
  • Gather technical data for maintenance project ideas to determine the best engineering approach.
  • Schedule internal and third-party engineering resources to support assigned projects.
  • Compile data for bidding documentation for selecting third-party engineering firms.
  • Review third-party engineering bid documents and proposals for contract awarding.
  • Manage project-specific engineering contracts and oversee Engineering Service Providers (ESPs).
  • Schedule design reviews and ensure stakeholder engagement during the design process.
  • Participate in project design and HAZOP reviews.
  • Verify facility load list calculations and perform/review arc flash, relay coordination, and load studies.
  • Identify equipment design requirements and review equipment layouts and installation.
  • Review performance of ancillary systems to ensure operational reliability.
  • Review third-party engineering firm design calculations, vendor drawings, and material lists.

Requirements

  • Relevant experience with compression and measurement facilities station power distribution systems.
  • Knowledge of NEC adherence, motor control centers (MCC), automatic transfer switches (ATS), and main breakers.
  • Experience with power factor correction capacitors (PFCC), conduit & cable tray evaluation and design, and auxiliary power unit (APU) generators.
  • Familiarity with hazardous area classification, grounding, arc flash studies, lighting, transformers, and control panels (SCP, ESD & UCP).
  • Additional knowledge of Remote Terminal Units (RTU), Gas Chromatographs (GC), Gas Analyzers, variable frequency drives, and motors.
