About the position

The Electrical Quality Technician at NV5 plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality and compliance of clean mobility infrastructure projects. This position involves serving as an Owners Representative, providing field quality assurance during various construction phases, and collaborating closely with Project Managers to ensure project documentation and client satisfaction. The role requires frequent travel to customer sites and the NV5 office in San Diego, California, to oversee project execution and address any deficiencies or energization blockers.

Responsibilities

  • Convey overall project status to clients through discussions, presentations, and project reports.
  • Provide support to Project Managers for planning, scheduling, and managing project budgets.
  • Manage own time and effort effectively.
  • Travel frequently within the Western United States for site walks and onsite services (Approximately 50-75% travel).
  • Inspect, witness testing, and troubleshoot low voltage (up to 600V-AC), medium (up to 25kV-AC), and potentially high voltage electrical systems.
  • Assess power transformer testing results including Doble, TTR, Insulation Resistance, etc.
  • Witness testing of both electro-mechanical and solid state relays.
  • Review cable testing including Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF, DC Hipot.
  • Troubleshoot automatic transfer switches.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with project stakeholders on site.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in a related technical field such as electrical engineering.
  • 5+ years of Project Management experience within engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of mobility infrastructure projects or similar.
  • Experience with low, medium, and high voltage switchgear and circuit breakers.
  • Experience with relay calibration and power metering.
  • Ability to identify onsite deficiencies and energization blockers, recommend resolutions, and identify root causes.
  • Experience working with NETA qualified testing vendors and assessing test results.
  • Proficient with Medium Voltage infrastructure including functional testing of relays.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; familiarity with Smartsheet.
