About the position

The Electrical Reliability Engineer at SpaceX is responsible for ensuring the reliability of Avionics Hardware throughout the product development and production processes. This role involves collaborating with various engineering teams, utilizing data to drive improvements in reliability, and conducting thorough investigations into product failures. The engineer will work hands-on in different environments, including the office, factory floor, and lab, to support the mission of making humanity interplanetary.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with core electrical design engineering and avionics manufacturing teams to improve product reliability by applying best practices to designs and establishing repeatable process control.
  • Utilize schematics, test equipment, and inspection processes to conduct PCBA test failure investigations, performing structured root cause analysis to identify design, manufacturing, and process changes to prevent future product failures.
  • Identify opportunities for risk reduction and removal of complexity in designs and processes to improve manufacturability, collaborating with integrated product teams to drive improvements and address high-impact and repeating non-conformances.
  • Monitor the yield rate of products through regular build quality reviews, and drive corrective action to products not meeting design specifications.
  • Contain suspect or known non-conforming product, providing guidance to quality inspectors, technicians, shop supervisors and engineers to assist in quarantining and rework activities.
  • Challenge requirements to determine what adds value and what is non-value added overhead, working with core avionics to determine the minimum viable sequence of acceptance testing that needs to be performed on flight hardware.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, hardware engineering, engineering physics, or equivalent engineering discipline.
  • 1+ years working with digital or mixed-signal designs, using oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power supplies, and/or soldering equipment.
  • 1+ years in a manufacturing, reliability, and/or design engineering role.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting/root causing electrical hardware failures.
  • Master's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent engineering discipline.
  • 2+ Years of industry experience working with electronic hardware.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, enthusiasm for the team's spirit of innovation and mission of improving reliability in cutting-edge technology.
  • Demonstrated application of process controls in high volume manufacturing, test, and quality environment.
  • Programming experience in Python/SQL/PowerBI with an emphasis on data analysis and automation.
  • Knowledge of quality tools such as Lean principles, Six Sigma, root cause analysis and corrective action, advanced product quality planning (APQP), metrology, process failure mode and effects analysis (PFMEA), control plans, and various problem-solving approaches.
