About the position

As an Electrical Senior Design Engineer for Moog Military Aircraft LLC (MMA) in the Mission Systems Division, you will play a pivotal role in the development of advanced electrical systems for military and commercial aviation. This position is situated in a fast-paced environment where projects can transition from inception to flight test hardware within a year, providing a unique opportunity to engage in various projects and collaborate with some of Moog's top talent. You will be involved in the emerging Advanced Air Mobility market, focusing on electric-powered flight, and will contribute to the development of critical products such as Electric Propulsion Drives, Electric Engines, Aircraft Power Generation Systems, and Power Distribution Systems. In this role, you will be responsible for designing complex electrical circuits, functions, system architectures, and control systems that will form the backbone of new products within MMA. A significant emphasis will be placed on implementing control electronics for motor drive applications, necessitating a deep understanding of motor control theory, architectures, interfaces, feedback elements, control systems, and algorithms. You will be expected to exercise authoritative judgment in evaluating, selecting, and adapting engineering techniques and procedures, as well as devising innovative solutions to engineering challenges. Additionally, you will coordinate the work of others on major engineering projects, ensuring that all efforts align with project goals and timelines.

Responsibilities

  • Develop complex electrical circuits and system architectures for new products.
  • Design electronics hardware including control electronics with microprocessors and FPGAs.
  • Oversee and review electrical design analyses, including hand calculations and dynamic simulations.
  • Create system-level models and simulations to support trade studies and solution architectures.
  • Determine requirements and evaluate performance of motor control position and speed feedback elements.
  • Contribute to proposals for new Advanced Air Mobility aircraft projects.
  • Collaborate with systems engineering and other engineering disciplines to mature system architecture and requirements.
  • Facilitate design of electronics boxes to meet cost, reliability, and schedule targets.
  • Act as the technical point of contact for customers, programs, and vendors.
  • Mentor and coach other engineers within the electronics department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Systems Engineering.
  • 8+ years of progressive relevant technical experience.
  • Extensive experience in designing motor control system electronics.
  • Solid knowledge of circuit design and a wide range of electrical components.
