About the position

The Electrical Supervisor at the University of Maine Facilities Management Department is responsible for overseeing skilled electric trades staff, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and managing departmental activities. This role involves coordinating maintenance needs, monitoring budgets, maintaining inventory, and preparing operational records. The supervisor will also participate in advanced maintenance activities and ensure that projects are completed efficiently and effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises skilled electric trades staff, prioritizing and assigning work, conducting performance evaluations, and ensuring staff training.
  • Coordinates department activities, determining maintenance needs and preparing work orders.
  • Assists in monitoring the department budget, reviewing and approving expenditures, and allocating resources.
  • Monitors and maintains inventory, requisitioning supplies when levels are low.
  • Prepares and maintains a variety of operational records, logs, reports, and related documents.
  • Participates in complex or advanced department maintenance and operations activities.
  • Performs maintenance and repairs in assigned skilled trade as necessary.
  • Coordinates the work order system by assigning and gathering information on work orders.
  • Determines scope and direction of project between replacement or repair.
  • Performs inspections of repairs and systems to ensure compliance with applicable standards and codes.
  • Determines project staffing, both internal and contract staff.
  • Designs and develops installation plans.
  • Develops cost estimates and orders all necessary supplies.
  • Performs other reasonably related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Five years' relevant electrical experience, in addition to a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Master's license in electrical trade.
  • Valid Maine Driver's license.
  • Supervisory skills.
  • Hands-on mechanical, planning, forecasting, communication, and judgment skills.
  • Knowledge of compliance and regulation standards.
  • Independent judgment along with effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work comfortably with people who possess a diverse array of skills, knowledge, abilities, and backgrounds.
  • Proven organization, time utilization, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently, independently, and accurately within a time-constrained environment.
  • Demonstrated reliable professional judgment and problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Single or a combination of licensing in mechanical, plumbing, and electrical trades preferred (e.g., journeyman's in plumbing and electrical, certifications in refrigeration and natural gas propane).
