About the position

The Electrical Test Engineer - Non-Nuclear Test Lead position at General Dynamics Electric Boat involves leading and instructing Electrical Testers in the safe execution of testing for Virginia Class Steam and Electric Plant systems, Weapons, and Hull, Mechanical, and Auxiliary systems. The role requires a strong focus on planning, procedural compliance, and effective communication with various stakeholders to ensure high-quality testing outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and instruct STO-Electrical Testers in safe testing practices.
  • Plan test sequences according to the Virginia Class playbook.
  • Facilitate instruction of Electrical Testers on-site.
  • Conduct complex testing and troubleshooting of Power Conversion Modules and Power Distribution Systems.
  • Complete daily Test Forms in accordance with CONOPs Test Form Prosecution and participate in the Electrical Surveillance program.
  • Interface professionally with various entities including Nuclear Test, USN, NAVSEA, Naval Reactors, Engineering, and Vendors.
  • Coordinate interdepartmental support with Trades and Test Supervision to enhance workforce efficiency and ensure first-time quality.
  • Achieve and maintain qualifications in Virginia Class Steam and Electric Plant.
  • Read, interpret, and teach schematic and electrical system diagrams for Lockout/Tag-out procedures.
  • Demonstrate proper operation of ship's Electric Plant systems in both hull and learning module settings.
  • Operate with integrity and strict compliance regarding material history and handling.
  • Maintain a flexible schedule to accommodate major milestone and key event testing.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 2+ years' experience in STO or Electrical Test experience, or 4+ years of US Navy or Military experience in lieu of STO/Electrical Test experience.
  • Ability to read and work from electrical system diagrams and schematics.
  • Current DOD Secret Clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or other Engineering disciplines.
  • Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program Experience.
