About the position

The Test Manager is responsible for overseeing the testing of Medium Power Transformers and their associated accessories to ensure compliance with customer specifications and IEEE C57.12.90 requirements. This role is critical in ensuring that all necessary safety protocols, equipment capacity, and employee training are in place to achieve successful testing outcomes. The Test Manager will review customer testing requirements and IEEE testing criteria to validate the facility's capability to meet all requirements from both a technological and manpower perspective. Any identified gaps will be addressed through appropriate workforce adjustments, equipment upgrades, capital projects, and management controls. In this position, the Test Manager will ensure that all aspects of dielectric, thermal, and assembly testing are completed, properly executed, documented, and reported. Key responsibilities include the development of standard test plans and safety protocols, as well as diagnostic testing protocols to assist in troubleshooting and isolating root causes of product test issues. The Test Manager will conduct process audits and job safety analyses to ensure that appropriate engineered safety controls and personal protective equipment (PPE) precautions are in place. The role also involves ensuring proper reporting and documentation of all test results, including the preparation of Certified Test Reports. The Test Manager will be responsible for staffing, supervision, and training of Test Department personnel, as well as developing the annual operating budget for the cost center and managing costs effectively. Continuous improvement efforts will be led by the Test Manager to enhance throughput in both dielectric and heat run test bays, while also ensuring compliance with ISO responsibilities, such as calibration. The Test Manager will provide necessary cross-training for test technicians and offer technical expertise and project management for capital project execution involving the test department. Additionally, the Test Manager will interface with customers for witness testing and support sales operations by evaluating customer testing requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure completion of all required product testing in accordance with customer specifications and IEEE C57.12.90 test code.
  • Develop all standard test plans and safety protocols for all product testing.
  • Develop diagnostic testing protocols to assist in troubleshooting and isolation of root causes of product test issues.
  • Conduct process audits and job safety analysis for all tasks to assure appropriate engineered safety controls and PPE precautions.
  • Assure proper reporting and documentation of all test results and preparation of Certified Test Reports.
  • Ensure adequate staffing, supervision, and training for Test Department personnel.
  • Develop annual operating budget for cost center (2150) and assure proper cost management.
  • Develop strategies to improve throughput through both dielectric and heat run test bays.
  • Ensure the discharge of the Test Department's ISO responsibilities (i.e. calibration).
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts for the test department, perform OEE scoring for equipment, and assure preventative maintenance activities are conducted for major equipment.
  • Provide necessary cross-training for test technicians to support quality specialist activity and backup support.
  • Provide technical expertise, roadmap development, and project management for capital project execution involving the test department.
  • Provide technical support, technical presentations, and/or interface with customers for witness testing, plant seminars, or regional technical seminars.
  • Support Sales Operations by evaluating customer testing requirements with regard to the company's capability to comply.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 2 years of experience with transformer and/or HV electrical equipment testing in a production, field, or laboratory environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 5 years of production testing experience in a Transformer manufacturing facility with transformers with primary voltage of 69 kV or greater.
