About the position

The Electrician 2 position at the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction involves leading and performing electrical work within the Marion Correctional Institution. The role requires a thorough knowledge of the electrician trade, including installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment. The Electrician 2 will also oversee lower-level electricians and incarcerated individuals, ensuring compliance with security regulations while contributing to a safe and secure correctional environment.

Responsibilities

• Act as lead worker over lower-level electricians and/or crew and/or incarcerated individuals engaged in installation, maintenance and repair of electrical wiring systems, fixtures, controls and equipment.
• Installs, tests, troubleshoots, maintains and repairs electrical wiring systems, fixtures, controls and equipment.
• Determines and completes materials needed, cost estimates, and submits requests to purchase.
• Reads blueprints and/or schematic diagrams; maintains inventory of electrical supplies.
• Maintains tool count of tools used by incarcerated individuals and completes tool control forms daily.
• Performs other maintenance and/or miscellaneous duties such as semi-skilled carpentry, painting, electrical, sheet metal, and HVAC.
• Ensures compliance with security regulations.
• Installs, troubleshoots, tests, modifies and/or maintains basic telecommunications and/or electronic data processing equipment.
• Serves on institutional committees and attends training, seminars, and/or meetings.
• Performs security functions as required, including man-down, shakedown, and inmate movement.

Requirements

• 18 months training or 18 months verifiable experience in electrical work under supervision of an experienced electrician.
• Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, and in reading and writing common English vocabulary.
• 6 months experience as Electrician 1, 52281, or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in a correctional facility environment.
• Knowledge of safety regulations and practices in electrical work.
