About the position
The Electrician position is responsible for repairing and maintaining machinery and mechanical equipment throughout the plant, including motors, conveyor systems, and production machines. The primary goal is to ensure the highest machine efficiency and quality production at the lowest cost through a continuous program of preventive maintenance and repair. The role requires a strong understanding of electrical systems, mechanical systems, and safety protocols to maintain equipment, buildings, and grounds effectively. Essential functions of the job include reading and writing legibly, possessing basic math skills, and meeting company requirements on electrical tests. The electrician must maintain a working knowledge of A/C, electrical, mechanical, and construction skills to ensure all equipment is in excellent condition. This includes performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting electrical problems, and adhering to safety regulations such as lockout/tagout procedures. The electrician will also be responsible for maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in assigned work areas and providing leadership during routine plant maintenance operations. The position requires the use of various personal protective equipment (PPE) and tools, including electrical meters, insulated hand tools, and calibration instruments. The electrician will also be involved in monitoring and repairing fire protection systems, performing basic machinist work, and ensuring compliance with safety standards. The role demands a proactive approach to maintenance and the ability to work independently while following company policies and safety procedures. Overall, the Electrician plays a crucial role in maintaining the operational efficiency of the plant and ensuring a safe working environment for all employees.
Responsibilities
- Repair and maintain machinery and mechanical equipment such as motors, conveyor systems, and production machines throughout the plant.
- Perform preventive maintenance throughout the plant to keep machines and equipment in excellent condition.
- Troubleshoot electrical problems using proper equipment and PPE according to Electrician JSA.
- Perform all plant electrical maintenance and monitor/repair fire protection systems as required.
- Repair air, water, and sprinkler lines as required and perform basic machinist work as needed.
- Rebuild bearings in motors and repair blowers and sweepers.
- Lubricate electrical motors and repair plant water and plumbing systems.
- Repair/replace light fixtures, ballasts, and bulbs as needed throughout the plant.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on electrical panels and check contactors for dust accumulation and proper operation.
- Maintain an adequate inventory of parts needed and send off parts that need repairs in a timely manner.
- Follow company policies and safety procedures and report any unsafe conditions or practices to management.
Requirements
- Must be able to read and write legibly and have basic math skills.
- Must meet company requirements on electrical tests.
- Maintain working knowledge of A/C, electrical, mechanical, and construction skills.
- Maintain a working knowledge of compressors and the electrical layout of the plant.
- Familiarity with safety programs, MSDS, lockout/tagout, and electrical safe working practices.
