About the position

The Electrician II position is designed to provide essential support and expertise in electrical systems within the district. This role involves performing routine, preventive, and emergency maintenance on various electrical components, including motors, transformers, wiring, switches, and lights. The Electrician II will also supervise assigned personnel, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and safely. This position requires a strong understanding of electrical systems, as well as the ability to read and interpret blueprints, work drawings, and adhere to national electric and city codes. The Electrician II is expected to maintain a high level of punctuality and dependability, demonstrating a commitment to the goals and objectives of the school district while following all district policies. In addition to technical skills, the Electrician II must possess strong communication abilities to effectively interact with district employees, students, parents, and community members. The role also includes responsibilities such as recommending supplies and equipment for purchase, maintaining an inventory of tools and materials, and estimating time and materials needed for electrical repair projects. The Electrician II will be responsible for a district vehicle and must be physically capable of lifting weights ranging from 20 to 100 pounds, as well as performing various physical tasks such as climbing, bending, and kneeling. This position may require working irregular hours and shift schedules, and adherence to safety rules and policies is paramount.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine, preventive, and emergency maintenance to electrical motors, transformers, wiring, switches, and lights.
  • Supervises and is responsible for assigned personnel.
  • Recommends supplies and equipment for purchase, and maintains the inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Estimates time and material needed for electrical repair projects.
  • Examines district-owned facilities on a regular basis for purposes of preventive maintenance.
  • Responsible for a district vehicle, inventory, materials, and tools.
  • Punctual and dependable.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, work drawings, and national electric and city codes.
  • Works cooperatively with fellow employees and campus staff.
  • Able to work a shift schedule and/or irregular hours.
  • Upholds and adheres to safety rules and policies of SISD safety program.
  • Supports the goals and objectives of the school district and follows all district policies.
  • Demonstrates the ability to attend work on a regular and routine basis to avoid disruption to district operations.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned by the appropriate supervisor.
  • Provides optimal customer service to all students, employees, parents, community members, and any other stakeholders of the district.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/equivalent or higher.
  • Valid Texas Operator's License.
  • Electrical Journeyman's License with a minimum of three (3) years' experience in commercial installation and troubleshooting (preferred).
  • Or (7) years of experience in electrical commercial facilities maintenance.
  • Own hand tools normally required of the trade.
  • Physically able to lift 20 - 100 pounds.
  • Demonstrate ability to effectively communicate with district employees and the general public.
