As an Electrician Journeyman at Amtrak, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and functionality of our rolling stock equipment and components. Your primary responsibilities will include the inspection, testing, and maintenance of electrical, electronic, and HVAC systems in accordance with Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulations and Amtrak standards. This position requires a strong understanding of both AC and DC electrical systems, as well as the ability to troubleshoot and repair various electrical components. You will utilize a variety of test equipment and diagnostic tools to identify malfunctions and implement corrective actions effectively. In this role, you will be responsible for performing inspections and maintenance tasks that adhere to 49CFR regulations. You will also be tasked with repairing or replacing critical components such as doors, electronics, signs, pantographs, and HVAC systems. Your expertise will be essential in installing new components, including motors, generators, switches, relays, batteries, and transformers. Additionally, you will be expected to maintain proper care and use of materials, test equipment, machines, and hand tools associated with your job. The position requires a high school diploma or GED, along with HVAC experience and a solid background in electrical repairs. You will need to demonstrate proficiency in reading and interpreting circuit diagrams, schematics, and mechanical drawings. Successful candidates will have the ability to troubleshoot using schematics and multimeters, as well as knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems. Some computer skills are also necessary for this role. Preferred qualifications include experience in the maintenance of railroad equipment and completion of a technical school or apprenticeship program. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for effective collaboration within the team and with other departments.
