About the position

Under supervision, Electricians perform various duties depending on assignment and Division. Incumbents perform skilled work installing, altering, maintaining, and repairing building electrical systems, traffic signals and streetlights, underground circuits, aerial service connections, electrical systems, electrical equipment, programmable logic controllers (PLC's), VFD's, lighting systems, pumping stations, and associated equipment. This position may require incumbents to perform standby duty on a rotating basis. Four (4) vacancies currently exist in the Department of Public Works, the candidates for this assignment in the Department of Public Works will be required to obtain a valid California Commercial Class B Driver's License without airbrake restriction within 6 months of appointment and maintain the commercial driver's license for the entire term of employment in this class.

Responsibilities

  • Install, alter, maintain, and repair building electrical systems.
  • Work on traffic signals and streetlights.
  • Handle underground circuits and aerial service connections.
  • Maintain electrical systems and equipment.
  • Work with programmable logic controllers (PLC's) and variable frequency drives (VFD's).
  • Manage lighting systems and pumping stations.
  • Perform standby duty on a rotating basis.

Requirements

  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program, or equivalent.
  • One year of journey-level experience as an Electrician in an industrial setting.
  • Possession of a Class C California Driver's License at time of appointment.
  • Ability to obtain a valid California Commercial Class B Driver's License without airbrake restriction within 6 months of appointment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Six (6) years of full-time electrician work experience in an industrial setting.
  • Evidence of apprenticeship program completion if applicable.
