About the position

Oncor Electric Delivery is seeking an Electrician S&T B for the Winter 2024 - Summer 2025 graduates. This position is crucial for the construction, maintenance, and repair of substation equipment, wiring, and structures, ensuring a maximum level of reliability for both the bulk system and the distribution high voltage substation system. The Electrician will be responsible for a variety of tasks that include installing, repairing, and maintaining essential electrical equipment such as transmission and distribution circuit breakers, transformers, and switchgear. The role requires working near or on energized equipment, utilizing live line tools and safety protocols to ensure personal and team safety while performing these tasks. The Electrician will also be expected to analyze and correct malfunctions in electrical and electronic equipment, operate and maintain line switches, and may perform switching and tagging orders to clear equipment for Transmission Grid Controllers. A significant aspect of this role involves directing the work of others, developing written procedures for safe construction and maintenance activities, and assisting in the training of new employees. The Electrician will need to maintain a mindset focused on knowledge growth and skills development to enhance both individual and team performance. Building and sustaining relationships with colleagues to foster a strong work environment is also essential, along with maintaining high-quality workmanship and planning work efficiently to meet budget expectations. In addition to these responsibilities, the Electrician will prepare and process documentation to maintain equipment records and database information, operate machinery, and ensure compliance with necessary licenses and certifications. The role may also involve learning about the bulk power system within the district and participating in line patrols and repairs, especially during storm situations. Other duties may be assigned as required, making this a dynamic and engaging position within Oncor Electric Delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Install, repair, and maintain transmission and distribution circuit breakers, synchronous condensers, transformers, air/load break switches, switchboards, foundations, structures, buses, controls, conduit systems, switchgear and other electrical and electronic equipment.
  • Analyze and correct malfunctions of all types of electrical and electronic equipment.
  • Perform work near or on energized equipment using live line tools, rubber gloves, or approved bare hand techniques.
  • Operate and maintain various types of line switches and perform switching and tagging orders to clear equipment for Transmission Grid Controllers.
  • Direct the work of others in accordance with the Oncor safety handbook.
  • Develop written procedures for use by other craft employees to ensure safe construction and maintenance activities.
  • Maintain a knowledge growth and skills development mindset to improve individual and team performance.
  • Assist in the training of new employees and reinforce strong work practices with veteran employees.
  • Adhere to corporate core values and build relationships with other employees to nurture a strong work environment.
  • Maintain a high level of quality control to exhibit excellent workmanship.
  • Plan work efficiently and economically to support district budget expectations.
  • Prepare and process documents to maintain equipment records and database information.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent is required.
  • Candidates with electrical/electronics related experience are preferred.
  • Coursework in electrical and electronics related fields and math are a plus.
  • Personal computer skills are a plus.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license (Class A license with a CDL endorsement preferred).
  • Must be available for overtime and call-out work.
  • Electrician S&T, B - requires 0-2 or more years related work experience.
  • Enrollment and continual progress in the Transmission CAPS program is required.
