About the position

The Electrician Supervisor position at the Department of Veterans Affairs is a full-performance role within the Engineering department at a complexity level 1-a facility. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Facility Manager, managing a team of electricians and overseeing the operations of electrical systems. This role requires a high level of leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to implement electrical principles to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead the Electrical Unit, ensuring efficient operations and team effectiveness.
  • Perform all normal duties of a Journeyman Electrician, including troubleshooting and repairing electrical systems.
  • Manage the nurse call system, fire alarm system, and other electronic equipment operations.
  • Implement trade knowledge to repair or replace primary and secondary distribution systems.
  • Determine correct sizes of conductors, overcurrent protection, switches, transformers, and generators for proper operation.
  • Lead employees in making emergency connections to restore or provide temporary power during outages.
  • Schedule and coordinate construction and repair projects with other trades to maximize efficiency.
  • Introduce new technologies to maintain high technical skill levels among subordinates.
  • Read and interpret building prints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and maintenance manuals.
  • Utilize various meters and test equipment to troubleshoot electrical issues.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in electrical work and supervisory roles.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, including 120/208 or 277/480 volt systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Experience with troubleshooting techniques and electrical codes (NEC 70/70E, Life Safety, NFPA 1, NFPA 72).
  • Familiarity with the use of hand and power tools relevant to electrical work.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a healthcare environment or similar facility.
  • Certifications in electrical work or related fields.
