About the position

The Electrician position at The Steamship Authority involves supporting the maintenance team in the preventative, corrective, and general maintenance of marine and shore-based electrical systems. The role requires a focus on safety, efficiency, and professionalism while performing various electrical tasks, including installation, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems and devices.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and troubleshoot electrical equipment and power distribution systems.
  • Interpret electrical drawings, installation instructions, and work orders.
  • Establish procedures to locate and correct electrical problems, and determine electrical component replacements.
  • Troubleshoot electrical problems in power and control circuits of various voltages.
  • Perform high and low voltage splices and terminations as required following codes and regulations.
  • Complete documentation including timesheets, work orders, expense reports, service reports, and purchase orders.
  • Conduct general maintenance tasks including safety training, on-call rotation, assisting other crafts, and maintaining tools, stock, and vehicles.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by maintenance management.
  • May be required to work weekends as part of a posted maintenance schedule.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent.
  • Computer Literacy.
  • Minimum of Journeyman Electrician License required; Massachusetts Master Electrician License preferred.
  • Minimum five years of experience working as an electrician.
  • Proven knowledge of the principles of electricity and electrical design.
  • Experience in the installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures.
  • Ability to work from electrical drawings, schematics, and sketches.
  • Knowledge of AC and DC control circuits and terminology of tools, prints, and equipment.
  • Valid Driver's License.

Nice-to-haves

  • Marine electrician experience preferred.
  • Experience with electronic controls for marine propulsion, steering, and other machinery automation systems preferred.
