The Electrician position at the Department of Veterans Affairs Alexandria VA Health Care System is a critical role within the Engineering Services, Maintenance and Operations (M&O) Section. This position is responsible for the installation, modification, repair, maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, and loading of new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment. The electrician will work primarily in the Alexandria, Louisiana facility, which includes six community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs). The role requires a comprehensive understanding of electrical systems and the ability to apply National Electrical Code requirements to ensure the proper and safe operation of electrical systems and equipment. In this position, the electrician will be tasked with determining the placement of distribution panels, boxes, fittings, and connections, as well as installing wiring, couplings, conduit, relays, fixtures, transformers, and other electrical devices. The electrician will also interpret building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings to plan the routing, placement, and arrangement of industrial systems or those of similar complexity. The use of a variety of hand and power tools, as well as test equipment such as meggers, multi-meters, ground fault interrupters, circuit analyzers, and breaker testers, is essential for the successful execution of duties. The work schedule for this position is full-time, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, although it may be subject to change based on the needs of the facility or service. The position does not offer remote work or telework options, and travel is required at a rate of 25% or less. The incumbent will also be required to perform physical tasks that may involve working from ladders, scaffolding, and other hard-to-reach places, which necessitates standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
