About the position

Anchor Sandblasting and Coatings, LLC of Tampa, FL is looking to hire a Marine Electrician. This maritime electric position starts at $23.00 - $25.00/hour, depending on experience. Responsibilities

  • Install and repair wiring, electrical and industrial equipment, and fuse boxes aboard ships and in shipyard facilities.
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, or necessary repairs.
  • Read blueprints to determine locations for equipment and ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards.
  • Measure, cut, and install electrical conduits using hand tools.
  • Test the continuity of electric circuits using an ohmmeter.
  • Repair and maintain electrical equipment aboard ships, such as generators, alternators, motors, and intercommunication systems.
  • Perform routine tests to ensure electric motors are properly driving pumps, blowers, and refrigerating machinery.
  • Strip insulation from wire ends, solder ends to terminals, and test wiring for short circuits using a voltmeter and ammeter.
  • Clean and replace commutator brushes, and remove and replace fuses and lights.

Requirements

  • 2 years of electrical experience
  • Knowledge of electrical theory, AC & DC voltage, ohms, and amperes
  • Knowledge of electrical layout and troubleshooting skills
  • Knowledge in reading equipment positioning drawings and equipment end drawings
  • Knowledge of shipboard cable runs, cable penetrations, distribution panels, and elementary electrical disconnects
  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding of general shipboard safety as well as electric shipboard safety, including the safety lockout/tag-out system and use of safety equipment
  • Ability to successfully pass a written skill assessment test
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods, work in confined spaces, and do some heavy lifting
  • Have own tools
