About the position

The Electrician position at the Department of Corrections is responsible for the inspection, installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and devices within the Jackson Correctional Institution. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring the safety and functionality of electrical systems, contributing to energy conservation efforts, and occasionally supervising maintenance personnel and inmates in repair tasks. The position requires a valid Master Electrician license and involves working in various conditions, including extreme temperatures and confined spaces.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspection, installation, analysis, preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and repair of electrical devices and systems.
• Report and make recommendations on lighting and power controls to enhance energy conservation efforts.
• Assist other maintenance personnel in routine tasks as necessary.
• Provide direction, training, and supervision to maintenance personnel and inmates regarding electrical maintenance tasks.
• Occasionally support other Department of Corrections facilities as needed.

Requirements

• Valid Master Electrician license from the State of Wisconsin, Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS).
• Ability to work up to 16 hours per day and more than 40 hours per week based on operational needs.
