About the position

The Electrician position at General Dynamics Land Systems involves providing electrical and electronic systems maintenance and developmental support for the manufacturing of component parts for military vehicles, specifically the Abrams Main Battle Tank and the Stryker Family of Wheeled Combat Vehicles. The role is part of a maintenance team operating in a large facility and requires expertise in troubleshooting and repairing various electrical systems and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Layout, maintain and repair all electrical equipment and power and lighting systems in the plant including motors, generators, transformers, controls and mechanisms, timing devices, switches, cables and conduits.
  • Troubleshoot, repair and maintain plant production equipment including PLC, VFD, Servo Motor and Programmable Sensors.
  • Perform functional tests to ensure electrically powered/controlled machines or equipment operate properly after installation or repair.
  • Work on 'live' circuits as required.
  • Determine horsepower requirements, line loads, and material requirements.
  • Operate lift equipment as required.
  • Assist other skilled trades as required and may be assigned to specialized work within the classification.

Requirements

  • Must have completed a formal Apprenticeship Program or have a minimum of eight (8) years of documented experience in the trade, industrial preferred.
  • Must have a High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience with PLC, VFD, Servo Motor and Programmable Sensor communication is preferred.
  • Skill in using various types of testing equipment to locate and correct trouble.
  • Ability to read and apply facility drawings including electrical schematics and riser diagrams.
  • Proficiency in thin-walled and rigid pipe bending.
  • Working knowledge/experience with voltages of 480, 277, and 120.
  • Knowledge of National Electrical and General Building Codes.
  • Knowledge of practices, tools, and equipment used in the electrical trade.
  • Ability to climb and work from ladders.
  • Certification to operate Lift Equipment or ability to obtain.
  • Ability to operate power tools in a safe manner.
  • Motivation as a self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Possess general computer skills.

  • Experience with advanced electrical systems and technologies.
  • Knowledge of military vehicle electrical systems.
