About the position

The Maintenance Electrician Class I can perform electrical work equivalent to fourth year Electricians in certain types of work, but will require more supervision and instructions. Employees shall know all types of industrial electrical work and be familiar with the National Electrical Code. They shall be able to work from drawings or clear sketches and take their own field measurements with minimum to average supervision. They shall be able to work effectively from verbal and written instructions with minimum supervision. They may be assigned work in other classifications for training.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to read electrical construction and distribution drawings and to read complex diagrams on electrical equipment and controls.
  • Make repairs to a wide variety of electrical machinery, equipment, and tools.
  • Perform a wide variety of electrical construction such as mounting panels and boxes, installing conduit and electrical raceways, pulling wires, installing outlets and lights with average to minimum supervision.
  • Be proficient in the use of all tools, testing equipment, and instruments normally associated with the electrical trade.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma, Associates degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous electrician experience in a heavy industrial environment preferred.
  • OSHA safety courses are preferred.
