About the position

The Electrics Technician position at William & Mary's Office of the Arts is a part-time role focused on supporting the technical and production aspects of various arts programs and events. The technician will work under the direction of the Production Manager, collaborating with production and technical managers to provide technical assistance for stage productions, maintain lighting equipment, and supervise student lighting crews. This role is essential for ensuring the successful execution of a diverse range of artistic performances and community programming.

Responsibilities

  • Support technical and production aspects of arts programs and events.
  • Collaborate with production and technical managers.
  • Perform technical duties in lighting and building support.
  • Provide technical assistance for stage productions.
  • Maintain lighting equipment in a clean and safe condition.
  • Assess lighting needs for multiple shows throughout the year.
  • Supervise student lighting crews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Theatre or equivalent education, experience, and/or training.
  • Knowledge of operating, maintaining, and repairing lighting equipment.
  • Knowledge of theatrical dimming systems and their operation.
  • General knowledge of electrical systems, both commercial and residential.
  • Knowledge of ETC consoles, specifically Gio@5.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Vectorworks, and CAD.
  • Experience with streaming and recording.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior technical experience in a performing arts environment.
  • Creative skill sets with the ability to work independently on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate in an environment with changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail with an ability to prioritize and execute tasks accurately in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Experience supervising student workers.
