About the position

The Electro-Acoustic Development Engineer at Draper will engage in the research and development of advanced sensors and sensor systems, focusing on the integration of electrical engineering and acoustics. This role involves overseeing various tasks from design to delivery, contributing to the development of innovative solutions that address critical national challenges. The engineer will work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to create precision instruments and will be responsible for mentoring junior engineers and presenting technical findings.

Responsibilities

  • Drive solutions to complex problems with limited direction to design and develop precision instruments.
  • Actively mentor less experienced Hardware Instrument engineers.
  • Design experiments and experimental precision instruments to validate design concepts.
  • Collaborate with other engineers to design and develop prototype and production hardware.
  • Integrate precision instruments into larger systems, ensuring performance metrics are met.
  • Develop initial processes for the fabrication of custom-designed instruments.
  • Draft and present formal technical documents, reports, and testing results to management.
  • Provide training related to devices to employees, sub-contractors, and customers.
  • Conduct independent research to solve problems as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Applied Physics, Electrical, or Computer Engineering required; Master's or PhD preferred.
  • 5-10 years of experience in Hardware Instrument Engineering or related field.
  • Experience in audio and/or acoustic applications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with LTspice, MATLAB, Simulink, or other multi-domain modeling tools.
  • Proficiency in C, C++, Python, MATLAB, HDL, or other development languages.
  • Experience with Audio Precision, National Instruments, Liquid Instruments, or similar test and data acquisition systems.
