About the position

The Electro-Mechanical Assembly Group Leader is responsible for directing the daily activities of the Electro-Mechanical Assembly Department to ensure that customer delivery requirements are met. This position plays a crucial role in coordinating production schedules, managing resources, and overseeing the assembly staff to maintain high standards of quality and efficiency. The Group Leader will develop and report on departmental goals that align with the company's long-term and short-term plans, ensuring that all assembly activities are executed smoothly and effectively. In this role, the Group Leader will set up jobs and assign work to assemblers, coordinating closely with other departments such as Cable & Harness, Inspection, and Test to meet customer product delivery dates. The position also involves performing supervisory duties, including conducting performance reviews, providing training, and implementing disciplinary actions when necessary. Compliance with the company's Quality System is paramount, and the Group Leader will participate in both internal and external quality audits as needed. Additionally, the Group Leader will analyze departmental processes and recommend improvements to enhance productivity and efficiency. They will also be responsible for maintaining an organized work area and ensuring that all assembly equipment is properly maintained. The role requires a hands-on approach, as the Group Leader will also perform assembly tasks as needed within the Electro-Mechanical Assembly Department.

Responsibilities

  • Direct daily activities of the Electro-Mechanical Assembly Department to meet customer delivery requirements.
  • Develop, report, and status departmental goals in alignment with company plans.
  • Coordinate production schedules for electro-mechanical assembly products.
  • Review and adjust resources to ensure product delivery meets customer expectations.
  • Set up jobs and assign work to assemblers.
  • Coordinate assembly activities with Cable & Harness, Inspection, and Test Departments.
  • Perform supervisory duties including performance reviews, training, and disciplinary actions.
  • Ensure compliance with the company's Quality System.
  • Participate in internal and external quality system audits.
  • Analyze departmental processes and recommend improvements.
  • Work with other departments to expedite and resolve problems related to product delivery.
  • Perform assembly tasks as required in the Electro-Mechanical Assembly Department.
  • Maintain an organized and neat work area and ensure proper maintenance of assembly equipment.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three (3) years experience as an Electro-Mechanical Assembler or related experience in an electronic contract manufacturing organization.
  • Preferred: Three (3) years experience as an Electro-Mechanical Assembler and two (2) years experience as an Electro-Mechanical Assembly Group Leader.
  • Diploma or GED from an accredited high school or technical school.
  • Ability to read complicated schematics and electronic assembly drawings.
  • Ability to identify electronic components and parts.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills, able to troubleshoot to the component level.
  • Knowledge of hand, surface mount, and through-hole assembly methods for electronic printed circuit board assembly.
  • Knowledge of cable and harness assembly methods and excellent assembly techniques.
  • Knowledge of IPC-A-620 Standards; IPC-A-620 certification is a plus.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Demonstrated effective analysis and corrective action implementation techniques.
  • Strong organizational skills with excellent oral and written communication ability.
  • Proficient in Windows-based computer programs including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English as it relates to job requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001:2015 standards.
