About the position

The Electro-Mechanical Technician position at Explorer Pipeline Company is a critical role responsible for the maintenance, repair, testing, adjustment, and installation of various electrical, mechanical, communication, control, and measurement equipment across multiple locations including Conroe, Bryan, and Plantersville, Texas. This position is based out of the Houston field office and requires the technician to be on-call for seven days every other week, which includes covering additional areas such as Grapeland and Huntsville. The work schedule is primarily Monday through Friday, but the technician must also be prepared to work weekends and holidays as part of the on-call rotation. In this role, the technician will ensure that all equipment is maintained in compliance with company standards and applicable regulatory requirements. The technician will perform a variety of operations, maintenance, and construction tasks to ensure the safe operation of the pipeline and its related facilities. This includes adhering to DOT and OSHA health, safety, and environmental requirements, and following the safety procedures established by the company. The technician will also be responsible for testing and inspecting equipment, maintaining records, and analyzing operating data to ensure optimal performance. The position requires a proactive approach to safety and the ability to work independently without direct supervision. The technician will also be involved in training new technicians and may act as a company inspector on construction and maintenance projects performed by outside contractors. Overall, this role is essential for maintaining the integrity and safety of the pipeline operations.

Responsibilities

  • Complies with DOT and OSHA health, safety and environmental requirements and follows safety philosophy and procedures developed by the Company.
  • Tests and inspects assigned equipment by monitoring performance and operating specialized mechanical and electronic testing equipment.
  • Maintains assigned mechanical, electrical, and electronic equipment by making adjustments and repairs as needed.
  • Compiles records and analyzes operating data on equipment.
  • Maintains equipment spare parts inventory and operates and maintains technicians' tools equipment, and assigned vehicle.
  • Recommends equipment design changes, gives technical guidance, and suggests procedures for proper and efficient use of equipment.
  • Contacts and confers with factory technical representatives.
  • Installs non-contract equipment additions and modifications.
  • Works with third party contractor on R/W encroachments.
  • Acts as company inspector on construction and maintenance project performed by outside contractors.
  • Assists with on-the-job training of new technicians.
  • Performs all other duties and projects as assigned by supervisor.
  • Performs maintenance associated with upkeep, cleanliness, and appearance of pipeline right-of-way, terminal, and station facilities.

Requirements

  • An Associate's degree in electronics/electrical, instrumentation or a related technical field or its equivalent in experience is required.
  • Experience as an operations/maintenance technician, or previous experience in electronics and mechanics is preferred.
  • Ability to actively engage in safe behavior and understand and follow the principles and methods related to pipeline and workplace safety as established by the Company.
  • Knowledge of emergency and safety procedures, policies procedures, equipment operating parameters, and all applicable DOT, EPA, FERC, DHS and OSHA requirements.
  • Knowledge of system operation, pipeline and facility layout, and equipment capability.
  • Ability to work without direct supervision to accomplish goals and meet schedules.
  • Knowledge of math, general science, hydraulics and strong mechanical and electrical aptitude.
  • Ability to think logically and remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Knowledge of equipment, processes, and physical ability to accomplish the task as assigned.
  • Ability to safely drive and maneuver company vehicles.
  • Ability to prepare and analyze data and figures.
  • Ability to test, setup, troubleshoot, and maintain a variety of electronic/electrical and mechanical equipment to include but not limited to electrical motors (medium and low voltage), flow computers, programmable logic controllers (PLC), personal computers (PC), routers and switches, fluid level instruments such as radar gauges, AC and DC relay systems, switchgear, breakers, motor control centers, contactors, electrical and hydraulic, valve actuators, centrifugal and positive displacement pumps, pump seals, as well as various instrument and control equipment.
  • Ability to use various tools in the performance of the above duties to include but not limited to digital and analog multimeters, dead weight tester, calibrated gauges, safety equipment, electrical power tools, electric shop crane and hoist, frequency counter, oscilloscope, line finder, probe bar, pipe threading equipment (electric and manual), ladders, and safety harness.
  • Ability to utilize computer hardware and software to manage, record, and evaluate company information.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and perform duties with little guidance.
  • Ability to effectively work and cooperate with supervisors, co-workers and vendors.
  • Ability to follow corporate policies and the directions of supervisors.
  • Ability to refrain from causing or contributing to the disruption of the workplace.
