About the position

The Electronic Design Lab Manager at Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies is responsible for overseeing a high-performing team of Engineering Lab Technicians. This role involves managing lab operations, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory requirements, and supporting engineering development activities. The manager will coordinate lab setups, maintain equipment, and drive operational efficiency while providing excellent support to engineers and internal customers.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a high performing team of Engineering Lab Technicians
  • Ensure proper staffing, training, and resource planning for the electronics lab
  • Provide training on lab safety, regulatory requirements, and cleanliness
  • Ensure compliance with Corporate Policies and Regulatory Safety Requirements
  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive Engineering Lab Stock
  • Coordinate and facilitate lab setup and moves with vendors and facilities personnel
  • Support engineering development activities including board builds and troubleshooting
  • Provide excellent support for engineers and internal customers
  • Support quality control measures and verify optimum quality in deliverables
  • Develop and maintain an effective ESD program
  • Drive operational efficiency improvements in support of company goals

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (B.S.E.E preferred)
  • 8+ years of experience managing an engineering lab with electronic assemblies in an R&D environment
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Highly organized and flexible with a positive attitude
  • Demonstrated experience in project management and people management
  • Recent experience in lab design and power planning
  • Experience in lab equipment calibration, maintenance, and budgeting
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in parallel
  • Strong ability to read complex schematics and follow engineering directions
  • Experience with multimeters, oscilloscopes, and other lab equipment

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with Jira or other task tracking systems
  • Experience in inventory control management systems
  • Ability to analyze data in Excel or similar tools
