About the position

The Electronic Systems and Hardware Co-Op position at The Pennsylvania State University's Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) involves supporting research, development, and engineering activities in the Navigation Research and Development Division (NRDD). This role is designed for undergraduate and graduate students, focusing on hands-on work with electrical circuitry, embedded software, and FPGA firmware development, contributing to advanced navigation technologies for U.S. government sponsors.

Responsibilities

  • Support laboratory operations related to the development, testing, and evaluation of navigation systems.
  • Work with a team of scientists and engineers on hands-on projects involving electrical circuitry and embedded software.
  • Design and build hardware to interface with state-of-the-art equipment and instrumentation.
  • Program software to interface with equipment and for logging/processing test data.
  • Conduct real-time programming of mathematical algorithms and analyze data from live tests of sensors.
  • Learn and strengthen practical skills in electrical circuit design, troubleshooting, drafting electrical schematics, solid modeling, hardware interfacing, and electrical fabrication.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate or Graduate student status in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering preferred.
  • Availability to work at the Warminster facility for a six-month period.
  • U.S. citizenship required due to government security investigation.
