About the position

The Electronic Technician Advanced position is an advanced journeyman role requiring superior technical skills to perform complex repairs, diagnostics, modifications, and installations of electronic, electrical, and pneumatic controls on HVAC Energy Management Systems and associated systems across the LSU Campus. This role also includes lead-worker duties and covers supervisory absences, ensuring the effective operation of HVAC and refrigeration systems in research, academic, and administrative facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex repairs, inspections, troubleshooting, calibrations, adjustments, modifications, and installations on computerized energy management systems and HVAC systems.
  • Update Energy Management System (EMS) and monitor HVAC needs across the campus.
  • Troubleshoot and repair motor starters, electrical control circuits, and interlock systems using test equipment.
  • Independently perform repairs on card access systems, boiler controls, and other electronic devices.
  • Read and interpret advanced circuit schematics and vendor literature for installations and repairs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including on-call and emergency work.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience in maintenance or repair of mechanical or electronic office equipment, precision machinery, or electronic and electrical systems.
  • Training in a vocational-technical school or military school can substitute for up to two years of experience.
  • College training in electronics or computer science can substitute for experience on a specific basis.
  • CompTIA A+ Certification can substitute for one year of required experience.
  • Must possess an appropriate Federal Communications Commission (FCC) radio-telephone license when working with specific equipment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Technician certification by the National Association of Business and Educational Radio (NABER).
  • Valid Louisiana driver's license.
