About the position

The Electronic Technician position at the City of Dallas involves performing journey-level technical work related to the installation, operation, repair, and maintenance of various electronic equipment. This role is crucial for ensuring the efficient operation of systems related to communications, traffic signal control, flood control, and water pumping stations. The technician will engage in troubleshooting, repairs, and documentation to support the city's infrastructure and services.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates performance and reliability of electronic equipment by applying electronic theory and testing procedures.
  • Repairs and replaces defective electronic equipment such as communication equipment and traffic signal lights.
  • Tests electronic components and applies knowledge to diagnose malfunctions and perform maintenance.
  • Prepares and maintains operating documentation and schedules for daily workload.
  • Drives and operates vehicles to facilitate repairs and maintenance services.
  • Takes inventory and orders equipment to ensure availability for assignments.
  • Replaces electronic components in motors and water pumps, performing calibration and troubleshooting.
  • Communicates effectively with personnel to address issues and provide technical direction.
  • Performs any other assigned work as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two years of experience in the installation, testing, diagnosis, and/or repair of electronic or related electrical equipment.
  • Ability to read and comprehend wiring diagrams and schematic drawings.
  • Thorough knowledge of electronic theory and practice involved in installation and repair of electronic circuitry.
  • Ability to use standard electronic and electrical testing instruments and tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associates degree or higher in an electrical or electronic technology field.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record.
