About the position

NIST's CTL is seeking a researcher who will advance microwave metrology through the development of measurement techniques, custom instrumentation, and theoretical modeling to characterize electronic systems, while collaborating with researchers and disseminating findings through publications and presentations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and apply measurement and characterization techniques for microwave signal instrumentation.
  • Develop custom electrical sources, receivers, circuits and protocols to support microwave metrology.
  • Apply theory, modeling and simulation to enhance the characterization of electronic systems.
  • Communicate and collaborate with NIST researchers, as well as with industry, academic, and other non-NIST government.
  • Present and publish research results and measurement best practices.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service
  • Suitable for Federal employment
  • Degree in Engineering or a combination of education and experience in engineering sciences.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level or a Master's degree.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with millimeter-wave digitally modulated communications signal generation, characterization and analysis.
  • Familiarity with using and calibrating instrumentation including vector network analyzers, vector signal generators/analyzers, oscilloscopes, and arbitrary waveform generators.
  • Experience with over-the-air spatial channel measurements using synthetic aperture and beamforming-based analysis approaches.
  • Proficiency in high-performance computing and programming languages such as Fortran, MATLAB, and Python.
