About the position

The Electronics Hardware Design Engineer at Komatsu is responsible for designing innovative electronic sensors and control hardware specifically for hazardous underground mining environments. This role involves collaboration with a cross-disciplinary team to lead technical design activities, participate in design reviews, and ensure product readiness through testing and validation.

Responsibilities

  • Design world-class electronic sensors and control hardware for use in hazardous underground mining environments.
  • Engage with an experienced cross-disciplinary team to formulate and design innovative products.
  • Lead technical design activities on various hardware projects.
  • Participate in architecture and design reviews with internal teams and suppliers.
  • Contribute to various aspects of electronic product readiness including manufacturability.
  • Perform testing and validation of hardware prior to release.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Electrical, Electronics, Computer Engineering or relevant field.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in electronics hardware design.
  • Experience in digital circuit design, low power analogue circuit design, programmable logic design (FPGA), and design of low power microprocessor-based controllers.
  • Knowledge of high speed communication systems and Ethernet-based networks, RF components and systems.
  • Experience with schematic capture, PCB layout, and circuit analysis applications such as Altium, OrCAD, SPICE, eCADSTAR.
  • Strong experience using electronic test equipment such as logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, digital oscilloscopes, and multimeters.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the design of autonomous sensors such as lidars, radars, and cameras.
  • Familiarity with safety critical system design and industry standards.
  • Knowledge of common machine control sensors, actuators, and other typical control devices.
