About the position

As an Electronics Hardware Design Engineer at Komatsu, you will play a crucial role in designing world-class electronic sensors and control hardware specifically tailored for use in hazardous underground mining environments. This position requires you to engage with an experienced cross-disciplinary team to formulate and design innovative products that meet the rigorous demands of the industry. You will lead technical design activities on various hardware projects, ensuring that all aspects of the design process are meticulously executed. Your responsibilities will include participating in architecture and design reviews with internal teams and suppliers, contributing to various aspects of electronic product readiness, including manufacturability. You will also be responsible for performing testing and validation of hardware prior to its release, ensuring that all products meet the highest standards of quality and safety. The role may involve up to 10% travel, allowing you to collaborate with teams and stakeholders in different locations. This position is based in Warrendale, PA, and is a full-time, on-site role. You will be part of a company that is an indispensable partner to the construction, mining, forestry, forklift, and industrial machinery markets, maximizing value for customers through innovative solutions and advanced IoT technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Design world-class electronic sensors and control hardware for use in hazardous underground mining environments.
  • Engage with an experienced cross-disciplinary team to formulate and design innovative products.
  • Lead technical design activities on various hardware projects.
  • Participate in architecture and design reviews with internal teams and suppliers.
  • Contribute to various aspects of electronic product readiness including manufacturability.
  • Perform testing and validation of hardware prior to release.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Electrical, Electronics, Computer Engineering or relevant field.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in electronics hardware design.
  • Experience in digital circuit design, low power analogue circuit design, programmable logic design (FPGA), and design of low power microprocessor-based controllers.
  • Knowledge of high-speed communication systems and Ethernet-based networks, RF components and systems.
  • Experience in developing complex CPU, FPGA, and ASIC based PCBA designs.
  • Extensive experience with schematic capture, PCB layout, and circuit analysis applications such as Altium, OrCAD, SPICE, eCADSTAR, etc.
  • Strong experience using electronic test equipment such as logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, digital oscilloscopes, and multimeters.
  • Experience in the design of autonomous sensors such as lidars, radars, and cameras is a plus.
  • Detail-oriented, consistent, and motivated self-starter.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-focused work environment.
  • Familiarity with safety-critical system design and industry standards is a plus.
  • Knowledge of common machine control sensors, actuators, and other typical control devices.
