As an Electronics Hardware Packaging Engineer at Komatsu, you will play a crucial role in creating and refining designs for electronic hardware enclosure packaging. This position focuses on devices such as sensors and control and automation hardware specifically designed for use in hazardous underground mining environments. You will be responsible for selecting appropriate materials for packaging, taking into account electrical, thermal, and mechanical properties, as well as cost-effectiveness and manufacturability. Your work will involve engaging with a cross-disciplinary team to formulate and design innovative products that meet the rigorous demands of the industry. In this role, you will support design reviews with internal teams and suppliers, conducting tests to evaluate the performance of electronic enclosure packaging designs. This includes validating hardware prior to their release. You will collaborate with the design team to specify critical aspects such as mounting strategies, mechanical keep-outs, hole sizes and spacing, PCB copper weights, connector types and placements, and thermal interfaces to the PCB assembly. A significant part of your responsibilities will involve performing thermal analysis of electronics and designing enclosures with proper thermal management to ensure that electronic components operate within safe temperature ranges. Additionally, you will conduct modal and vibration analyses of electronic assemblies that include mechanical and structural components. Ensuring that enclosures comply with industry standards and regulations, such as IP ratings for ingress protection, will be a key aspect of your role. Beyond electronic packaging, you will also be responsible for the design of test fixtures and will support vibration, shock, and thermal tests of the products you design. The development of CAD designs, part drawings, and assembly drawings will also fall under your purview. This position may require up to 5% travel.
