About the position

This position is assigned to the Electronics Shop of DHHS Central Regional Maintenance located in Raleigh, NC and provides services for the Dorothea Dix and Governor Morehead School Campuses. The Electronics Technician II provides planning, scheduling, and installation of complex electronics and electrical based control systems, including but not limited to, building fire alarm life safety systems, internet and phone communication systems, video surveillance systems, electronic and pneumatic security control systems and building automation systems for the completion of Force Account construction, renovation, major maintenance and repair projects. The Electronics Technician II works hands-on and side training and mentoring Electronic Technician I personnel assigned to the Electronics Department. This is an essential position that will be required to report to work during adverse weather.

Responsibilities

  • Planning, scheduling, and installation of complex electronics and electrical based control systems.
  • Installation of building fire alarm life safety systems, internet and phone communication systems, video surveillance systems, electronic and pneumatic security control systems, and building automation systems.
  • Mentoring Electronic Technician I personnel assigned to the Electronics Department.

Requirements

  • Documented experience with installation, programming, testing, and troubleshooting of head end control equipment used with fire alarm life safety systems, internet and phone communication systems, video surveillance systems, electronic security control systems and/or building automation systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with installation of low voltage conduit and circuitry for fire alarm life safety systems, internet and phone communication systems, video surveillance systems, electronic security control systems and/or building automation systems.
  • Thorough knowledge and use of test equipment to diagnose electronic components.
  • Working knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards.
  • Documented experience reading and interpreting construction plans and specifications.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction industry safety requirements.
  • Valid NC driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prefer two years of working experience in commercial setting with fire alarms and telecommunication equipment installation and repair.
