About the position

ASRC Federal Communications is seeking an Electronics Technician III/IT for our ISS2 contact supporting our Air Force customer. This position is located on Wake Island, which is situated 2,100 miles west of Honolulu, Hawaii. While working on-site, housing is provided in the form of a dormitory facility, and all meals are furnished through the cafeteria. The selected employee will be responsible for the flight from their home base to Honolulu, while transportation from Honolulu to Wake Island is provided by government-sponsored aircraft. This is a rotational position, where the employee will work a schedule of 3 months on-site at Wake Island followed by 1 month off unpaid. The Electronics Technician III/IT plays a crucial role in providing support to distributed PC and Networking environments. This includes installation, testing, repair, and troubleshooting for computers, networks, printers, and other peripherals. The Technician is responsible for performing technical, operational, and training support to computer users. The position also involves supporting maintenance actions of communications systems and equipment, meteorological systems and equipment, telephone systems and equipment, and navigational aids (NAVAIDS), including associated systems, sub-systems, components, and equipment, while adhering to applicable directives, manuals, and USAF contract standards. Essential duties include managing user accounts and system resources for local company networks, AIR Force NIPRNET, and Air Force SIPRNET. The Technician will troubleshoot hardware, software, and security issues, respond to customer requests for assistance submitted via telephone, email, or in person, and perform maintenance, repair, and installation of computer and network cabling or wiring. The role requires the use of common office machinery, including copiers, fax machines, and computers, and demands timely and cost-effective performance of duties. The Technician must work professionally with a variety of people and personalities, meet deadlines, and handle potentially highly stressful situations. Additionally, the Technician will assist with the maintenance of various communication and meteorological systems, ensuring the operational readiness of critical equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage user accounts and system resources for local company network, AIR Force NIPRNET, and Air Force SIPRNET.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, and security issues.
  • Respond to customer requests for assistance submitted via telephone, email, or in person.
  • Receive requests for resolution of hardware or software problems that may require in-depth research.
  • Perform maintenance, repair, and installation of computer and network cabling or wiring.
  • Use common office machinery, including copiers, fax machines, and computers.
  • Perform duties in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Work professionally with a variety of people and personalities.
  • Meet deadlines and handle potentially highly stressful situations.
  • Assist with maintenance of ILS equipment, C-E-M or NAVAIDS systems, VHF/UHF GAG radios, or HF single-sideband radios.
  • Assist with maintenance of automated meteorological sensing equipment (AWOS).
  • Assist with maintenance, installation, programming, or modification of Land Mobile Radio (LMR) assets, including repeater stations, tone remote units, base stations, vehicle, and handheld radios.
  • Assist with preventative and corrective maintenance, installation, modification, or removal of satellite television receive only dishes, receivers, descramblers, modulators, line amplifiers, related cable television distribution systems, and FM radio broadcast and antenna systems.
  • Assist with the preventive and corrective maintenance of airfield lighting and radio navigational aids.
  • Assist with preventive and corrective maintenance of satellite communications (including television and internet) infrastructure.
  • Accountable for Automated Weather Observation System (AWOS) and weather-related equipment including AWOS server and JET server.
  • Serve as COMSEC Responsible Officer (CRO) alternate.
  • Responsible for storage and accountability of classified assets.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in a computer related field.
  • Three years of computer or help-desk experience.
  • Possess DoD 8570.01M IAT Level 2 certification.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Previous demonstrated experience with Microsoft Server 2012 or Microsoft Server 2016.
  • Previous demonstrated experience with secure data storage.
  • Previous demonstrated experience using various operating systems.
  • FCC PG (General Radiotelephone Operator - elements 1 and 3) License or obtain license within 60 days.
  • Valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Obtain and maintain SECRET security clearance.
  • Successfully pass a pre-employment physical and drug test.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior U.S. Air Force or federal government-based experience as a base operations and services contractor.
  • Additional engineering or installation-on-network communication systems or splicing and fabricating copper or fiber optic cables.
  • PBX (telephone) switch experience i.e., Cisco Call Manager and IP based phones.
