About the position

The position involves maintaining the physical security of a correctional institution through the management of various electronic systems. The role is critical in ensuring the safety and well-being of both staff and inmates by overseeing the installation, maintenance, and repair of security and communication systems. The incumbent will also provide technical support and conduct inspections to ensure the reliability of these systems, contributing to a secure environment for successful reentry of individuals into the community.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the physical security of the institution through installation, maintenance, and repairs of electronic systems.
  • Ensure the reliability of the institution's electronic security and communication systems.
  • Provide technical support during the preparation of drawings and specifications for electronic and telecommunication equipment.
  • Conduct inspections and perform preventive maintenance as required by policy.
  • Maintain security of the institution as part of correctional responsibilities.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in federal service.
  • For GL-09: Two full years of graduate education or a master's degree directly related to the work of the position.
  • Experience in using schematic diagrams and testing equipment to troubleshoot and maintain electronic equipment.
  • Experience with programmable logic controllers, CCTV/DVR systems, and fire alarm systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of telecommunications regulations, laws, and standards.
  • Ability to prepare and present technical information both orally and in writing.
