About the position

The Elementary Art Teacher position is a one-year role aimed at fostering students' artistic expression and creativity in visual arts. The teacher will implement the district-approved curriculum, develop lesson plans, and provide a safe learning environment while assessing student progress and engaging with parents and administration.

Responsibilities

• Develop and administer school art curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
• Develop lesson plans and instructional materials, translating them into effective learning experiences.
• Teach knowledge and skills in various art forms including crafts, drawing, painting, and art history.
• Conduct ongoing assessments of student skills and modify instructional methods to fit individual needs.
• Demonstrate techniques in activities such as drawing and painting using instructional aids.
• Organize class time to provide a balanced program of instruction and working time.
• Instruct pupils in the proper care and use of tools and equipment used in art classes.
• Evaluate each pupil's performance and prepare progress reports.
• Plan and present art displays and exhibitions to showcase students' work.
• Encourage parental involvement and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
• Maintain accurate records of student activities, achievement, and attendance as required by district procedures.
• Coordinate with other school staff and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
• Select and requisition appropriate art materials and maintain inventory records.

Requirements

• CT State Certification as an Art Teacher or as required for the position.
• Valid Teaching Certification license.
• Experience in teaching, particularly in art education.

Nice-to-haves

• Knowledge of current art instructional teaching methods and educational pedagogy.
• Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
