About the position

The Elementary Art Teacher at Maricopa Unified School District is responsible for teaching art and other subjects to students in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade. This role involves developing lesson plans, providing individualized instruction, and creating a positive learning environment. The teacher will also evaluate student progress, communicate with parents, and participate in curriculum development and faculty committees.

Responsibilities

  • Teach reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, health, physical education, and music to pupils in a classroom setting.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials tailored to the needs of each pupil.
  • Provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum.
  • Utilize various instructional strategies such as inquiry, group discussion, and discovery.
  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior for a functional learning atmosphere.
  • Evaluate pupils' academic and social growth, keeping appropriate records and preparing progress reports.
  • Communicate with parents regarding pupils' progress and the school program.
  • Identify pupil needs and collaborate with other staff to address health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Create an effective learning environment with displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
  • Maintain professional competence through in-service education and self-selected growth activities.
  • Participate in curriculum development programs and faculty committees.

Requirements

  • Valid Arizona Department of Education Certification/Endorsement consistent with assignment.
  • Valid Arizona DPS IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Knowledge of best practice teaching strategies and classroom management.
  • Knowledge of data assessment and disaggregation.
  • Knowledge of general safety rules and first aid/CPR techniques.
  • Skill in monitoring and correcting student behavior.
  • Professional communication skills, both verbal and written.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in teaching art or related subjects.
  • Familiarity with district rules of conduct and ethics.
